Boulevard Brewing Company Wedding Reception — Kansas City Skyline Views

Most couples get one wedding day. Andie and Noah decided that wasn't enough.

You might remember them from [their first celebration at Southmoreland on the Plaza](https://www.atnfoto.com/post/intimate-wedding-downtown-kansas-city) , an intimate gathering, just their closest people, quiet and personal in a charming old house downtown Kansas City near the Plaza.
About 6 month later, they decided to have round two and it was a different energy. A hundred guests, a rooftop patio with a Kansas City skyline view, unlimited Boulevard beer on tap, and Jack Stack barbecue, and enough space for a dance floor that was missing during round one.
Boulevard Brewing Company is one of those venues unlike anything else in Kansas City. Imagine getting married inside one of Kansas City's most iconic craft breweries! And while the beer is reason enough to show up, the Muehlebach Suite is a 3,600 square foot industrial space with floor-to-ceiling windows and a patio that faces the downtown skyline directly. When the sun went down that evening it turned the whole city gold behind the guests. That backdrop does something to your celebration that very few venues in Kansas City can offer.
The kids took over the patio and the dance floor with equal confidence. There is something about a wedding where children are genuinely having the time of their lives that tells you everything about the couple at the center of it. Nobody had to organize the fun. It just happened.
When the father daughter dance came, they prepared us a nice surprise. They kept it a secret, even from me. Usually couples tip me off so I don't miss it. They started putting on a black hat and sunglasses. What followed was a full Blues Brothers choreography. One of the most famous songs from the original 1980 movie. "Everybody needs somebody to love" if I remember correctly. Appropriate for a wedding if you ask me. In the background we could see a picture of Andie as a teenager and her dad in full blues brother costume, so obviously there is a story here that some lucky family member must know. That song is hard to resist dancing on (in the movie that is the one that wakes up the entire arena) so I was dancing too while taking photos and running around to get various point of view of this great performance.
That is the thing about photographing a couple the second time. I feel like a guest when I arrive at a wedding, like when it has been a long time you have not seen people and you start where you left it, except this time it was true ! That is a rare thing in this job and I did not take it for granted.
If you are planning a reception at Boulevard Brewing Company in Kansas City, I would love to hear about it. The light on that patio at sunset is something I would happily photograph again.
