A “Summer in March”: Claire & Dominick Wedding at Elysian Fields

Claire and Dominick didn’t originally plan to get married at Elysian Fields, a Kansas City–area wedding venue located about 40 minutes east of downtown in Bates City, Missouri. Their original venue cancelled on them, and in the end, it turned into a blessing—Elysian Fields opened their 2026 season just for them.

Claire and Dominick grew up in the same neighborhood, surrounded by a tight group of friends who have known each other for years. You can feel it immediately. Nothing feels forced. Everyone is already connected, already comfortable.

The wedding party blends naturally with the families. Parents know each other. Friends feel like family. There’s an ease to everything.

Honestly, the kid in me was a little jealous of that kind of story.

This opening wedding at Elysian Fields felt like a preview of summer. The trees were still bare, but the warmth and blue sky were already there.

Claire might say it was a little too warm, we ended up chasing shade to finish family photos, but it made for a beautiful outdoor ceremony. The wind moved gently through the space, lifting the fabric and creating that soft, constant sound that somehow makes everything feel calmer and cooler!

Speaking of the ceremony, Elysian Fields is a Kansas City–area wedding venue with a beautiful outdoor space set in the open countryside just outside the city. Positioned on top of a hill and surrounded by wide fields, it offers a clear, unobstructed view that makes the setting feel calm and expansive.

It has its own dedicated ceremony space in the middle of the field, and it almost feels like a chapel made of air—just a wooden structure remains. Open on all sides, it lets the landscape and light become part of the experience.

The venue itself is designed in a way that gives couples flexibility without pressure. With both indoor and outdoor options, it allows the day to unfold naturally. The reception area is climate-controlled (which already mattered in March), and there are thoughtful touches throughout—getting ready suites, a patio with a fireplace, and space for guests to move, gather, and breathe.

It’s the kind of place that works best when you let it be what it is.

Before the ceremony, there was a series of very emotional moments. Claire read a letter to her mom that brought the entire room to tears—and then somehow did it again with her dad.

Dominick held it together a bit more on the outside, but you could tell he was feeling it just as deeply.

These are the moments that stay.

After the ceremony, the energy shifted.

Claire and Dominick are naturally a bit discreet. During dinner, they took the time to go around and greet every table, connecting with each guest one by one. It felt thoughtful and genuine—very much in line with who they are.

So I wasn’t expecting what came next.

The dance floor filled quickly, and they let go completely. High energy, movement, laughter—they pulled everyone into it.

It’s always interesting to see that contrast: the quiet, grounded presence earlier in the day, and then the full release later on. That’s what makes a wedding feel complete.

One day, their family and friends will remember how it felt to be there. And these photos will bring them back to it.

If you’re planning your wedding at Elysian Fields or anywhere around Kansas City, and you care more about experiencing the day than performing it, that’s usually where my work fits best.

You can reach out through my contact form and tell me a bit about what you’re planning—I’m always happy to hear about it.
