Behind the Scenes of Kansas City’s Wedding Industry: Monthly Merriment at the Arts & Heritage Center

The wedding industry can be a beautiful whirlwind—but for many of us who work behind the scenes, it’s also a solo journey. That’s why events like Monthly Merriment are such a bright spot in our calendar. They’re not just about styled drinks or trendy backdrops (though yes, there were smoke-bubble cocktails and a robot-arm photo booth—how could I not take pictures?). They’re about community. About connection. About fun.
Last night’s event, held at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, was the perfect mix of all of that. The vendor team behind the night absolutely brought it, and I’m excited to share both the visuals and the spirit of what makes this event so special.

Although the event didn’t take place in the museum exhibits, the entrance—with its striking sculptures—set the tone beautifully. The Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center offers a charming mix of clean indoor space and a sweet little garden, making it easy to transform the venue into something special.
This edition of Monthly Merriment had such a fresh, springtime vibe—soft pastel colors, a calm and revitalizing energy, and the perfect touch of elegance. We were lucky to be treated to some amazing barbecue (this is Kansas City, after all).

And the fun factor? Fully present. Between the smoky bubble-topped cocktails and the sleek photobooth setup by The Photo Bus Co (complete with a robotic camera arm that made us feel like celebs), the experience was unforgettable.
As a photographer, these events are like creative playgrounds. I love capturing the joy, the movement, the little styled moments—and watching how each vendor brings their signature touch to the celebration.

Why I Go
As much as I love photographing weddings, I deeply value the relationships that happen behind the scenes. Getting to know other vendors on a personal level means we trust each other more on wedding days—which makes the experience even better for our couples.
And honestly? Being a solo entrepreneur can get a little lonely sometimes. Events like Monthly Merriment fill up my social cup and remind me why I love being part of this creative community.
My Takeaways:
Always say yes to a robot-arm photobooth.
Never underestimate the power of a good drink presentation.
Strong community = stronger weddings.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this event so much fun! Can’t wait to see what the next one brings.
